What is the difference between a Country of Nationality and a Country of Birth in terms of Form N-400?
To begin with, it is safe to emphasize that these two terms are in fact different. The Country of Birth is the place you were born, while the Country of Citizenship is the one where you were either born or naturalized and which you pledge allegiance to and Country of Nationality is the one of your citizenship belongs to or the one you consider your nationality to belong to.
The fact is that Form N-400 Part 2 suggests separate fields for the “Country of Birth” and “Country of Citizenship or Nationality”. Here is how you need to fill them out:
Country of birth – provide the name of the country you were born in. Even if the country name has changed over the past years, you need to provide the one it had at the time you were born.
Country of citizenship or nationality – provide the country name you are a citizen of as it is of now. If the country no longer exists – provide its current name. In case you do not belong to any country provide the name of the last country you were a citizen of.
In case you are a citizen of a couple of countries, you need to provide the name of the last one that granted you its passport.
Make sure that the information provided is readable and stated in black ink.
