What is Advance Parole?
Advance Parole is a temporary travel document, which gives a permission to certain immigrants to come back to the United States after travelling abroad without applying for a visa. It is issued for the adjustment of status applicants (in accordance with Form I-485), individuals with temporary protected status, U-visa holders and persons with a grant of LIFE Act Family Unity Provisions benefits.
Application for Travel Document (Form I-131) should be submitted to apply for an Advance Parole. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services must approve your application before overseas trip, otherwise, it will be considered abandoned.
Advance Parole is not needed for travelling between parts of the USA as it refers only to foreign trips.
